Getting started as a learner
Signing in, the introduction, your first lesson, the daily quiz, streaks and the memory bank, and the app's settings.
Cyberact teaches security and the sensible use of AI in lessons of a couple of minutes. This guide gets you started and shows what is in the app.
You get an email invitation with the subject You have been invited to Cyberact. It comes from support@cyberact.io.
- Open the link in the invitation and press Send the sign-in code.
- A six-digit code arrives by email. Type it into Six-digit code and press Sign in.
There is no password. Next time, go to app.cyberact.io, enter your Work email and press Send code. If the code doesn't come, see The sign-in code doesn't arrive.
The introduction
The first time you sign in, Cyberact starts with an introduction. It takes a couple of minutes. You see how the lessons work, and choose a few settings on the way:
- the language, and whether the lessons talk more formally or more casually
- your daily goal: Casual (1 lesson a day), Regular (3) or Intense (5). Setting your first goal earns you 10 xp. You can also choose Decide later.
- the order of the paths, and whether you want to be on the leaderboard.
You can change all of these later in your profile. You can go through the introduction again with Redo the introduction in your profile, but a second run earns no xp.
The app's menu
- Learn: the learning paths and their lessons
- Daily: the daily quiz
- Ranks: the leaderboard
- Profile: your progress, achievements, memory bank and settings
Your first lesson
Choose a lesson from Learn. A lesson takes a couple of minutes, and it is read aloud.
- Tap the screen, or hold it, to pause.
- Hold the right edge of the screen to speed up for a moment.
- The narration on / narration off button turns the voice on or off during the lesson.
At the end of the lesson, press Start the quiz. The questions ask you to pick the right option, type a missing word, or match terms to where they belong. If you're stuck on a question you type the answer to, you can buy a hint with xp.
If you missed a question, you can press Try again. A retry only earns xp for what you improve.
The daily quiz
The daily quiz on Daily opens once you have done your first lesson. It picks questions from what you have already learned, starting with the ones you got wrong before. It takes a few minutes, and you can do it once a day.
Streaks and freezes
Every day you do the daily quiz makes your streak a day longer. Miss a day and the streak starts again from nothing.
A freeze protects your streak over one missed day. You earn one for every fifth daily quiz you do, and you can hold up to two. A freeze is used automatically; you don't have to remember it.
Freezes are not part of the free plan: there you keep your streak by doing the daily quiz every day. Freezes you earned before stay saved, and they work again on a paid plan.
The memory bank
The memory bank is what the daily quiz is made from. A question only leaves it once you have answered it right three times in a row, and the gap grows each time: first three days, then a week. A wrong answer brings it back the next day, and the climb starts again.
Your profile shows how many questions are in rotation and how many you have learned for good.
Settings in your profile
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Language | Changes the app and the lessons straight away. The languages are Finnish and English. |
| Relaxed narration | The same facts in a looser voice. Off gives you the formal wording. |
| Narration | Lessons are read aloud. Off, the text moves on by itself without sound. |
| Lesson speed | Normal or Faster. |
| Daily goal | How many lessons you aim for each day. |
| Path order | Which topics come first. Every path is always there. |
| Show me on the leaderboard | Off by default. |
| Daily quiz reminder | A notification on this device when today's daily quiz is still waiting. |
The sound icon in the top bar (Mute sounds) silences the app's sound effects. Lesson narration has its own setting, Narration.
Relaxed narration isn't in every lesson yet. The setting shows how many lessons have been rewritten in the relaxed voice; the rest read in the standard one.
Put Cyberact on your home screen
Cyberact runs in the browser, but you can add it to your phone's home screen so it opens like an app.
- iPhone and iPad: open app.cyberact.io in Safari, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen.
- Android: open app.cyberact.io in Chrome and choose to install the app, or add it to the home screen, from the browser menu.
A reminder for the daily quiz
Turn on Daily quiz reminder in your profile and you get a notification if today's daily quiz is still waiting. Choose the time under Remind me at. It starts at 18.00.
- The reminder is only for the device you turn it on.
- Your browser asks whether Cyberact may show notifications. Allow them.
- On iPhone and iPad the reminder only works when Cyberact has been added to the Home Screen and opened from there, on iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later.
The app keeps itself up to date
Cyberact updates itself once a day, but never in the middle of a lesson or a quiz. If A new version is available. appears at the top of the screen, press Refresh to get the new version straight away. If the app behaves oddly, press Update the app at the bottom of your profile. Your progress and settings are kept. More in Troubleshooting and FAQ.
On the free plan
If your organisation, or your own account, is on the free plan, you can do one lesson a day, and the daily quiz is always open. On the leaderboard you compete against practice rivals, made-up players rather than your colleagues. Relaxed narration is part of the free plan too; faster playback isn't. The management path, On the Hook, is part of the paid plans only. Anything locked shows a padlock.
