Boss battles, achievements and xp

How bosses unlock and how to beat them, what the boost does, how xp adds up, and how to join or leave the leaderboard.

In Cyberact you earn xp, levels and achievements, and a boss waits at the end of every module. The game parts are there to make learning more fun. They make no difference to what your manager sees of your training.

Boss battles

Every module ends with a module boss, and the boss of a path's last module is the path boss. Each path has a boss character of its own.

How a boss unlocks

A boss unlocks once you have done every lesson in its module. The path map shows how many questions it can ask you. Press Face the module boss or Face the path boss, and start with Fight.

Boss battles are part of every plan, the free plan included.

How a battle goes

  • Every question comes from lessons you have already done in this path. The boss never asks anything new.
  • Each question has a time limit: 15 seconds against a module boss and 12 against a path boss. You get longer for answers you type.
  • A right answer hits the boss. The faster you answer, the harder it hits, and the fastest answers are critical hits.
  • A wrong answer, or running out of time, costs you a heart. You have five hearts against a module boss and six against a path boss.
  • You win when the boss's health runs out, and lose when your hearts do.

Questions you have got wrong before are more likely to come early. Your battle answers update your memory bank, but they don't count as completions in the manager console or on the leaderboard.

What a win gets you

  • xp for the first win: 50 xp for a module boss and 150 xp for a path boss.
  • A boost: after the first win over a boss, lessons and the daily quiz pay 1.5× xp for 24 hours. You can fight a boss you have beaten again for practice, but a rematch gives no xp and no boost.
  • An achievement for every boss you beat.

If you lose, you can try again straight away.

Achievements

Achievements unlock for things like your first lesson, full marks, streaks, levels, finishing modules and paths, and questions you have learned for good from the memory bank. Boss battles have achievements of their own, such as Lightning kill, for beating a boss faster than its lightning limit, and So close, for losing to a boss with less than 3% of its health left.

You find them all under Achievements in your profile.

How xp adds up

Forxp
Each right answer15
Completing a lesson for the first time20
Full marks for the first time30
Completing a module25
Completing a path60

A retry only pays for what you improve. A hint you buy costs 8 xp.

The daily quiz

Forxp
Each right answer15
The daily quiz bonus40
Full marks30
Streak bonus5 for each day of your streak, up to 50

Setting your first daily goal earns you 10 xp.

Boosts

  • Boss boost: after the first win over a boss, 1.5× xp on lessons and the daily quiz for 24 hours.
  • Raising your goal: when you raise your daily goal, lessons pay 1.5× xp for two days, today included.

Boosts don't add up. If both are running, the larger one applies.

Levels and expertise

Your level goes up every 150 xp. Your level puts you in a league: Bronze (levels 1–3), Silver (4–7), Gold (8–14) or Platinum (15 and above).

Under Expertise in your profile you also see your standing on each path: Newcomer, Aware, Practitioner, Proficient, Advanced and Expert.

The leaderboard

The leaderboard on Ranks shows the people in your own organisation who have joined it. Nobody from other organisations is shown. You can see the points for Today, This week and All time. The day's board resets at midnight, and the week's on Monday.

Leaderboard points come from the lessons and daily quizzes recorded for you. Boss battle xp doesn't show on the leaderboard.

Joining and leaving

The leaderboard is off by default.

  • To join: press Join the leaderboard on the leaderboard, or turn on Show me on the leaderboard in your profile.
  • To leave: turn off Show me on the leaderboard in your profile. Your colleagues no longer see you.

When you're not on the leaderboard, you still see your own place, marked only you see this. Nobody else sees it.

On the free plan and the Individual plan

On the free plan and the Individual plan you compete against practice rivals. They are made-up players, not real people, and each is marked practice rival. On the free plan you never see real people on the board, even if others in your organisation use Cyberact too.
